Test#2
48. A 10-year-old patient with a third degree burn just underwent a split-thickness skin grafting procedure for wound coverage and healing. How long after the surgery can you start working on preserving range of motion with this patient?
a. One month after the surgery
b. Three months after the surgery
c. One week after the surgery
d. Same day as the surgery
A patient can start working on range of motion following a skin grafting procedure 5 days after the procedure.
This questions is not worded correctly. With split thickness grafts you want to PRESERVE ROM DAY 1. patients will be immobilized in splints to keep their ROM intact in the least restrictive position to maintain their ROM. based on the answer and rational for the answer, the question wording needs to be changes to work on ROM not to preserve their ROM as that is done on the same day of surgery.
Thank you for your feedback on this question. You are correct that the intent of this question was to ask when it would be okay for a physical therapist to actively start working on range of motion with this patient. We will change the wording of this question to clarify the difference between preserving the range of motion with splints on day one and actively working to maintain and gain range of motion once the patient is safe to do so on day 5 and beyond. Please let us know if you have any other questions or any other feedback! We are always looking to improve!
