      Hi!

Hoping to get some clarification on safe lab values for exercises. The oncology and lab values study guide state that platelets need to be 10,000-20,000 for light exercise and >20,000 for resistance exercise but in practice test #2 – it states that platelets need to be 20,000-50,000 for light exercise and >50,000 for resistance exercise. Are there different scenarios to which these values would be applied? Or is one value set more recent than another?

      Thanks for any clarification/guidance!

Hi Madison, The test reflects the more accurate values (I will be sure to update the study guide!)
      No aerobic exercise: <10,000
Light to low impact exercise: 10,000-50,000
Cardiovascular exercise and light strength training: >50,000
Keep in mind different institutions and references will have slightly varying values, so knowing the general range of values is what’s important.

It looked like the study guide matched chapter 16 in the 6th edition of Campbell.

      No aerobic exercise: <20,000
Light to low impact exercise: 20,000-50,000
Cardiovascular exercise and light strength training: >50,000
But these values are from the 5th edition of Campbell.

Should the 6th edition be our reference?

Yes, the 6th edition of the text would be an appropriate reference. It was published in 2023, so recent enough to be relevant, but not too recent that the information would not be incorporated in the exam.
