OVER 98% PASS RATE FOR THE NCS, PCS, OCS, AND GCS EXAMS › forums › PCS Advantage › Blood values and CMT 2024 CPG
Hi, there’s discrepancy with platelet values for exercise between sources – should we go with over 20,000 for resistive exercise or over 50,000 (in a PCS Adv chart)?
Also will the newest CMT CPG be what the test is going with or the 2018. Thank you!

Lab values can be tricky because each resource will have different cut offs – Cancer Care Alliance vs ACSM vs textbooks vs different institutions etc…
I think the most important value range to know is when to not do any exercise. After that, knowing general ranges for “type of exercise” values will suffice. When choosing the answers, narrow down to the best of your ability and then choose the one that makes the most sense for that question’s scenario with the ranges you have memorized.
For the CMT CPG, I’m guessing that the October 2024 CPG will be too new to have any questions written and approved for this years exam. I would put most of your efforts into studying the 2018 CPG, but still be somewhat familiar with the 2024 CPG, knowing what changes were made.

Hi Jodi,
The CMT CPG practice exam questions were based on the 2018 version of the CPG because it will likely take 1-2 exam cycles for the new CPG to be integrated. We suspect that the exam you will be taking was already set by the time the new CPG was published.

In regards to the question Jodi had with the values for platelet values, I am also very confused with the chart given for the answer to the question in practice exam 2 of what exercise to do with a cancer patient in the scenario given. In both Campbell’s textbook and the PCS Advantage study guide, platelet values are: <10k – no exercise, 10k – 20k – light aerobic; >20k – resistive. However, in the answer to the question in exam 2 of what type of exercise to do with this patient, it says no exercise <20k. Is this a typo? If not it is a big difference between the chart given in the answer and the chart in Campbell’s and your study guide.

For the chart referenced in this answer, I was using the Effgen text for my values. You are correct that our study guide and Campbell both say <10k – no exercise, 10k – 20k – light aerobic; >20k – resistive. The study guide and Campbell both contain more recent information/values than the Effgen text at this point, so I would use the values in the study guide and Campbell as your base and not the Effgen text. Something for us to update in the questions!
